Celebrate your Unique Beauty at Aescend Aesthetics

aesthetic clinic

Have you ever found yourself admiring someone’s beauty, yet unable to pinpoint what makes them so captivating? At Aescend Aesthetics, we celebrate a different kind of beauty—one that defies conventional standards. Thin lips, eyes that slope when they smile, an asymmetric nose—these unique features are what set individuals apart. We embrace the kind of beauty that cannot be replicated, nor easily speculated upon.

How do I choose an aesthetic clinic?

Choosing an aesthetic clinic is largely based on personal preference. Though we highly recommend conducting your own research prior to entrusting your patronage to someone new.

Our tips for choosing an aesthetic clinic are:

Know the qualifications and experience of the person treating you

In Australia, work is still being done to improve the safety of the aesthetics industry and currently there are no mandated training programs or pathways for practitioners. This essentially means that after a 2 day course (sometimes less) a doctor, nurse or dentist is able to establish their own practice and start offering treatment…. with no mandates on the years of basic professional experience they have to complete prior to independent practice.

Why is the problematic?

We have seen a spate of professionals without any previous cosmetic/aesthetic/dermatological experience establish their own practices and in the case of nursing, practitioners completing nursing degrees with the sole intention of going straight into independent cosmetic practice. Aesthetics comes with risks upto an including burns, exacerbation of skin conditions, tissue destruction, permanent impairment, blindness, stroke and anaphylaxis. Make sure that the practitioner you choose has the years of practice in aesthetics and the acute care setting to support the ability to recognise and intervene should you have a complication. Not sure where to find this knowledge? Check the practitioner’s registration status via the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency’s website. As of 2023 all providers offering cosmetic injectables now have to display their registration number. Search this and ensure there are an appropriate number of years of experience, no restrictions or holdings on their practice and that they are actually registered!

Ask around

Particularly in our neck of the woods, on the South Coast of NSW, businesses are made or broken on reputation. A recent analysis of our new patient data showed that upto 85% of new business into Aescend is generated through word of mouth. People talk! They talk about good and bad experiences so take the time to gain that personal insight from others prior to entrusting your services to a new clinican. And remember, sometimes adverse outcomes happen, this does not necessarily mean that the provider is bad.

The difference is how invested that provider is in supporting you through an adverse outcome and the measures they implement to ensure you are adequately informed and guided through an adverse event and the QI/QA processes they implement following to ensure repeat incidences are mitigated. No provider should make you feel as if an adverse occurrence is your fault. Look for someone that takes responsibility for a situation, is available and has the skills to appropriately manage you through a complication.

How do they make you feel?

This is an important one. On meeting the clinicians in the clinic how do they make you feel? Do you feel heard? Do you feel like they have made recommendation in line with your concerns? Have they discussed multiple options for treatment and if not, have they explained why the option presented is the best option for your concern? Do they make you feel welcomed into the space? Have they adequately discussed risks? Have they taken the time to provide comprehensive information and assessment?

Are their brands and devices TGA approved?

Although Australian regulations on devices and consumables are fairly strict, it is still possible to purchase products and devices that have not undergone adequate safety and efficacy testing. The role of safety and efficacy testing in Australia is held by the TGA and so if your clinician is using products and machines that are TGA approved/listed then you can be assured that they have undergone rigorous testing prior to sale. Some smaller companies often overlook this factor in an effort to make treatment more price competitive. However without this certification how can you or the clinician be sure that injectable products have a predictable outcome profile or have undergone the necessary sterilisation/degradation testing to ensure safety and longevity? Conversely how can you be assured that the device which is being used can treat to an efficacious level and/or will not treat outside of recommended safety parameters? You can’t!

Is their premises clean and fit for purpose?

When you walk into their space is it clean? Does it have flooring and surfaces that can be adequately cleaned and are unable to be penetrated by body fluids? Do they have safety signage and PPE? Do they have a robust sharps disposal method? If they do not, think about the practitioner they are and what interest they have in your comfort and safety.

Is their personal aesthetic something you vibe with?

Although you should never judge a book by it’s cover, the personal aesthetic of your injector is something you should consider. Is the way they present themselves and the treatment they have had done something that you would want for yourself, and is it synonymous with their brand ethos? If there is incongruence consider that this may be the ideal of beauty they strive for and value and if it does not match your own then maybe keep looking!

Aescend Aesthetics places value on individuality, cherishing the uniqueness that each face brings. We believe in you, and we are committed to preserving your distinct, natural beauty.
